When was the last time you cleaned your pet’s ears?

Examining your Pet for Ear Issues
While it’s important to regularly check and clean your pet’s ears, it’s also important to know how to tell if your pet is developing ear issues which need attention from a vet. Some ways to tell if your pet’s ears may need cleaning or medical attention include:
- Shaking of the head frequently
- Repetitive scratching of the ears
- Redness of the inner ear
- Pus or grime located in the ear
- A foul smell which resembles yeast

Reminder: NEVER USE cotton swabs to clean your pet's ears
Pets' ear canals are "L" shaped, and their ear canals are very deep. Not only can a cotton swab not clean the ear canal thoroughly, but it can also poke things like earwax and ear mites deeper into the ear canal!
The cotton swab itself is not soft, and the skin in the dog's ear canal is very sensitive and easily irritated, and may even struggle with pain, causing the swab to break in the ear canal!
